For Summer to automn 2014 Yoh Nagao sign his new collaboration with french fashion brand Thomas Demess around the spirit of art and Paris.

Yoh Nagao is a pop collage artist from Aichi Prefecture, Japan, who has been based in Berlin since April 2012.

Nagao mentions the following when asked why he does art: “I believe art can change the world. I want to change the world with my art and make it a better place. With art, I continue smiling and staying positive. And I want to give this positive energy to people with my art.”

Nagao creates work that reveals the concerns of modern society, such as greed, over-consumption, and the rampant spread of information. He is keenly interested in pursuing information most relevant to him personally, rather than being overwhelmed by the enormous amount of information bombarding us daily. Creating different collages and combining them to create something imaginary, is almost like a form of meditation for him. He discovers materials to match from his large collection of magazines, enabling his collage style to become more cohesive by connecting them, and continues to look for new possibilities in this expression on a daily basis. His unique style and pop psychedelic color usage gives strong impact and vibes to those who see his works.

His unique works are created from fashion magazines to which he adds acrylics, pen, and marker. His style draws from the many manga, anime, and music videos he grew up with, as well as illustration, design, and fashion elements that heavily influenced him in art school.

After Nagao graduated from Nagoya Zokei University, he began working as a graphic designer and illustrator, while freely expressing his unique style as an artist. He gained prominence in Japan after receiving the Uniqlo Creative Award in 2005 (now UTGP), exhibiting at the International Poster Triennial in Toyama, and being selected for the SHIFT calendar design competition. These successes led Nagao to expand his work overseas. After a successful first-ever solo exhibition in Hong Kong in 2009, he received an honorable mention in the collage category of the international competition ARTAQ Urban Art Award (France) in 2011. He was then invited to participate in the PICK ME UP Contemporary Graphic Art Fair held in London that same year, becoming a serious contender in the international art stage. Since then, he has participated in numerous art fairs and events in NY, LA, Zurich, Berlin, Paris, Angers, London, and Tokyo.

In 2008, his work was displayed in famous boutique shop Colette in Paris. With work also published in high profile publications such as LODOWN (Germany), DAZED AND CONFUSED (England), and dpi (Taiwan), Nagao’s original style and creativity has become further recognized internationally. He made a long-awaited move to Berlin in 2012, and now continues to work between Germany and Japan. Nagao is making a name for himself as a Japanese artist who is certain to make waves in the world of design.
